Fields,” reminding him that he had lent her $40 to be repaid when she had made “a pot of
gold,” and sending the money [not present] as it has miraculously come to pass. 1

Once upon a time you lent me forty dollars, kindly saying that I might return them when I
had made ‘a pot of gold.’
As the miracle has been unexpectedly wrought I wish to fulfil my part of the bargain, I here-
with repay my debt with many thanks.”
