A handsome copy of what
many regard as the author’s finest work. Hurston and the recipient, Lorenzo Dow Turner,
had much in common. Both were folklorists, and both were dedicated to recording and
preserving the oral history and traditions of the slave culture of the deep South.

The Lime Kiln Club.
Chromolithograph, 23 x 29 inches, depicting the members of
“Brother Gardner’s Lime Kiln Club,” playing some sort of game.
Np, circa 1900?

The largest and most unusual version of any “Lime Kiln Club” related lithograph we have
ever seen. The scene seems to be some sort of contest involving a spittoon which sits in the center
of the floor. One gentleman holds out a collection box, while another is taking down
information in a book.
