(MUSIC.) BAKER, JOSEPHINE.
Follies Bergeres 1937. Super Follies.
Program with a cut-out cover in the shape of a star, partially revealing a topless Josephine;
when opened she is totally nude. Copiously illustrated with an extravagant double-page
centerfold showing the entire company with a life sized elephant. 40 pages, original
wrappers in excellent condition.
Paris, 1937
[400/600]
One of the last years of the Follies Bergeres as they were before WWII, these programs are
increasingly scarce. Germany invaded France in the Spring of 1940, and Josephine Baker
became a member of the underground.
ARTWORK FOR FOLLIES PROGRAM

(MUSIC.) BAKER, JOSEPHINE.
Josephine Baker in her Follies Bergeres
“pearl and feather costume.”
Watercolor, 16-1/4x11 inches, matted and framed. Signed
by the artist “Giacchi[?]” in the lower right corner.
Np, circa 1927
[4,000/6,000]
A classic image of “la Josephine” in her famous Follies Bergeres pearls and feathers costume. This image
was on the 1927 program for the Follies, and it is quite likely that she either posed for this or sketches
were made from life for it.We could find no reference however to an artist named “Giacchi.”
