A unique collage created by Doris Parker (1922-2000), third and last wife of Charlie Bird
Parker. Charlie Parker died in 1955 from complications stemming from years of heroin addi-
tion, alcoholism and a bleeding ulcer. His widow, Doris June devoted the remainder of her life to
the fight against drugs. This elaborately conceived collage was created in his memory, using old
photographs, pieces of articles and related material. In it can be found images of numerous musi-
cians that Parker played with over the years.

Charlie Pride is one of the very few black artists to make it in a basically white, Southern and
Western “red-neck” market, and only the second African American to have been inducted as a
member of the Grand Ole Opry. He appears here with three acts, two of them musical and the
third a ventriloquist.
