the viewer's gaze around a soirée.The murals in the room featuring nymphs are similar to those he

would create for the walls of NewYork City's Café des Artistes in 1934.

Did you see the way he looked at me? An elegant story illustration for an unidentified

publication featuring a woman just returned from an event, her lavish evening coat tossed

casually across her chair, and addressing her maid. Ink and wash on board, with areas

heightened in white. 762x1016 mm; 30x40 inches. Signed in full and dated 1922 in lower

right image. Edges heavily chipped (not affecting image), age-toning and pinholes in margins,

two pieces of tape in outer margins.
