VIKTOR KORETSKY (1909-1998) 310 ● [WE WANT PEACE!] 1950. 32 3 / 4 x21 1 / 2 inches, 83 1 / 4 x54 1 / 2 cm. Iskusstvo, Moscow. Condition A. An exceptional political cartoon from one of the masters of Russian graphic propaganda during the Stalinst era. Amongst the “vilified” Western leaders seated around the table are (from left to right) Dean Acheson, Harry Truman, Winston Churchill and Charles de Gaulle. On the table (the green felt indicative of the poker game being played with the fate of the world) they are making plans with an atomic bomb, a spy plane, a cannon and a spy boat. Koretsky, well known for his photomontage images, veers towards cartoon in his juxtaposition of the gargantuan, heroic worker and the vile, rodent-like leaders of the imperialist countries. Note that the only photographically “real” image on the poster is that of the overall-clad worker. Koretsky pl. 102, Images of Power 177.
