One 3-line decorated initial in blue and many one-line initials in red. 301x198 mm; slight darkening and wrinkling in upper outer corner, minor soiling in outer and lower margins, bottom few lines of text on verso rubbed but legible. Illuminated vellum bifolium from the calendar of a Book of Hours showing the months of January and June, with miniature for each month and historiated three-quarter border on each page in colors and gold. French text written in gothic hand in red, blue, and gold. 163x115 mm folded; some marginal soiling, light surface wear to scenes of theVirgin in border on first page. France, later 15th century [1,500/2,500] The miniature for January depicts a solitary noble feasting, and Aquarius as an angel; the one for June shows a harvester with a scythe, and a somewhat unrealistic crab representing Cancer.
