Ink and watercolor on paper laid down to board. 457x372 mm; 17 3 / 4 x14 1 / 2 inches, archivally framed to 25 1 / 2 x21 inches. Signed “Bemelmans” in lower right. Matted, glazed, and in the original Hammer Galleries frame with their label on frame verso, along with exhibition labels. A copy of the published supplement accompanies this lot. [30,000/40,000] a charming , image featuring madeline , miss clavel , and all the girls . “Madeline’s Christmas” was originally issued as a supplement to the McCall’s Christmas issue for 1956 with this image gracing the back cover.
