Swann Galleries’ annual auction devoted to Rare & Important Travel Posters held Monday, November 10, 2008, offered an excellent selection of images promoting travel to destinations all over the world as well as posters for travel via airplanes, automobiles, ocean liners and trains.

The auction's top lots included Adirondack Mountains / Lake Placid, by Walter L. Greene, New York, 1930, which sold for a record $15,600 (see top illustration); “1915” Boston Exposition, by Frank Vining Smith, Boston, 1909, $15,000 (second illustration); Australia, by Percy Trompf, 1929, which sold for a record $12,000 (third illustration); King David Hotel / Jerusalem, Naples, circa 1931, $11,025 (fourth illustration); and California / America’s Vacation Land / New York Central Lines, Jon O. Brubaker, Long Island City, 1925, $10,200 (last illustration).
