Swann Galleries celebrated Black History month with its annual African American Fine Art sale. Offering two important works by renowned Chicago figurative artist Charles White, Hope Imprisoned, 1946, tempera on paper (top), and Move On Up a Little Higher, 1961, charcoal and Wolff crayon on illustration board (second illustration), this sale spanned the artist's career. Additional highlights included Hughie Lee-Smith’s masterful Untitled (Rooftop View), oil on masonite, 1957 (third illustration), Elizabeth Catlett’s impressive mid-career sculpture, Black Head, polished black marble, circa 1973-74 (fourth illustration) and Benny Andrews' painting of artist and friend, Bob Thompson, 1966 (bottom).
