Swann Galleries’ annual auction of Rare & Important Art Nouveau Posters on Wednesday, December 16, 2009, offered 158 lovely fin-de-siècle images from Europe and the United States including works by well-known, unfamiliar, and anonymous designers.
Highlights included:
Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's Troupe de Mlle Églantine, 1896, which sold for $26,400 (first illustration).
Roger Jourdain's Aérodome de Vichy, Paris, 1909, which sold for $12,000, a record for the artist at auction (second illustration).
Alphonse Mucha Lefèvre-Utile / Sarah Bernhardt, Paris, 1904, which sold for a record $7,800 (third illustration).
Jules Chéret's Palais de Glace, from Courrier Français supplement, Paris, March 1, 1896, which sold for a record $5,760 (fourth illustration).
Evelyn Rumsey Cary’s Woman Suffrage, circa 1905, which sold for $5,760 (fifth illustration).
