Swann Auction Galleries is rescheduling this week's Old Master Through Modern Prints and Salvador Dali sale. The auction will now begin on Tuesday, November 6 at 1 pm. Additional exhibition hours will be announced soon.
This auction offers exceptionally scarce, museum-quality Old Master through 20th-century prints, from Durer and Rembrandt to Renoir and Whistler, Cadmus and Hopper, through Picasso and Miro.
Also featured in the auction is a separate catalogue for works by Salvador Dalí, including prints, drawings and livres d'artiste.
Swann will hold a preview of highlights from this auction in Paris October 5, 6 and 8, hosted by our International Auctioneers parter Artcurial.
Highlights include:
Rembrandt van Rijn's Christ Healing the Sick (The Hundred Guilder Print), an etching, engraving and drypoint circa 1643-49, so-called because it was reportedly sold for 100 Guilders in the 17th-century, nearly twice what the Dutch paid for the island of Manhattan in 1626.
A print of Vincent van Gogh's only etching, Homme a la Pipe: Portrat du Docteur Gachet, made in 1890, a portrait of the doctor who not only administered to the artist, but taught him how to etch, just months before van Gogh's death.
Among several portfolios is Georges Rouault's Miserere, a complete set of 58 aquatints, 1922-27.
M.C. Escher's monumental Metamorphosis II, a very long color woodcut printed in black and yellow, a detail of which is shown left.
And from the Salvador Dali portion of the sale, a number of portfolios and drawings, including The Mythology, a set of 16 drypoints, 1960-64.
