The exhibition, the artist’s first, opens on Saturday. Both an artist and a professor, Jones taught at Howard University for 47 years, after working in Paris in the 1930s and ’40s. She passed away in 1998 at the age of 92.
Paris street scenes were important subjects for Jones, who painted many scenes of Montmartre en pleine aire. She is also known for her views of Haiti and West Africa. To read more about her upcoming retrospective, check out the Washington Post.
