wann launched a new department devoted to African-American Fine Art in February 2007. Today, we are the only major auction house to conduct regular sales of this material. At each African-American Fine Art auction benchmarks have been set for works by important and lesser-known artists.

 



Charles White's drawing Work, crayon and charcoal on board, 1953, sold for $306,000 on October 6, 2011.



Eastern Star by William T. Williams, acrylic on canvas, 1971, which was the first painting by the artist to come to auction, sold for $120,000 on February 16, 2012.



Kara Walker's portfolio, Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War (Annotated), with 15 screenprint & lithographs, 2005, sold February 16, 2012 for $120,000--a record for a print work by the artist.



Robert S. Duncanson's Untitled (Landscape), oil on canvas, late 1850s, sold for $120,000 on October 6, 2011.



Romare Bearden's Tidings, collage of various papers and mixed media, circa 1973, sold on February 17, 2011 for $96,000.
