John D. Larson has had a long and varied history as a writer, editor, archivist and books and manuscripts specialist with particular emphasis on 19th and 20th century literature and popular culture, as well as Illustration Art.
Beginning as collections assistant for The International Dada Archive at the University of Iowa, where he obtained a BA degree in English Literature while attending the prestigious Iowa Writers’ Workshop, John went on to receive a MA from The New School. His graduate thesis on documentary film and contemporary global conflict was awarded Best Thesis for his class.
Previous to his position at Swann, John was the Co-Director of the Russian Literature & Art Department and Modern Literature Specialist for Bloomsbury Auctions at their New York offices, where he catalogued several notable sales and collections including the Ivan Collection, the Richard Harris Collection and the John Steinbeck Archive.
John has also taught university-level literature and film courses in New York for several years, and his poetry, fiction and essays have appeared in numerous publications, among them Monster Trucks, Lungfull, The Baffler, Opium Magazine, The Poetry Project Newsletter and Fodor’s Travel Guides. He is a certified member of the American Sailing Association.
