concerning the pack of Tarocco (Tarot) cards painted
by Antonio Cicognara for the Cardinal Ascanic Sforza in 1484.The cards are in the possession
of The Pierpont Morgan Library and in the Accademia Carrara in Bergano. “The first part
treats Nielli . . .the second of playing cards; the third of lithography and siderography. Many
interesting documents on the subject are included in the Appendix”—Bigmore & Wyman I,
135. This set ex-collection Augusto Calabi, renowned collector of European and Dutch old
master prints and author of several art historical works. He had the binding paper specially
designed by his friend,Wiener Werkstätte artist Ugo Zovetti, which Calabi used on several of
his most cherished books.An important work in the history of playing cards.
