(PHOTOGRAPHY—EARLY AND CASED IMAGES.)
Two late nineteenth
century full-plate tintypes that have been enhanced by hand-painting.
A seated
dark-skinned woman, with sharp, almost “aquiline” features and a full-plate tintype of a
light-skinned child, with her hair in large curls, bleached at the tips. The latter is housed in
an elaborate Victorian hand-made and hand-painted mat.
Np, circa 1970’s -1880’s.
[800/1,200]
Two rather unusual photographs that demonstrate the almost endless variation of color as a
result of the mixtures of race in America. The first photograph is a woman whose dark coloring
and sharp features might indicate both African as well as Native American heritage. The second,
a young girl with partially blond-tipped finger curls, seems to be of mixed white and black heritage.
