244 c   (CAVES OF TASMANIA, AUSTRALIA) A fascinating album with 60 photographs documenting vast mineral formations and deposits within the cavernous Tasmanian underground by the Australian visual artist Stephen Spurling III (1876-1962). With richly printed views of the flawlessly-lit cavern interiors containing dripping stalactites extending meters from the cave ceiling, and images of dusty light-beams pouring in from the bright outdoors. Silver prints, the images measuring approximately 6x8 inches (15.2x20.3 cm.), and the reverse, mounted recto only to thin pages, each with Spurling’s credit and a caption in the negative or a handwritten caption on the page, each page also with a number corresponding to a detailed handwritten caption list on front cover verso.
