Condition A- / B+: creases and restoration in margins and along vertical and horizontal folds. “To call attention to its international exposition in 1910, the city of Brussels brought forth a gala poster that capitalized on the public’s interest in a promising new mode of transportation, the dirigible airship. With flags flying, the Stars and Stripes prominently among them, an airship of the Lebaudy-type hovers over the city’s [town square, showing the] historic Grand Place. On the right is the Town Hall and in the background Brewer’s Hall” (Looping the Loop p. 57). Cassiers was a painter from Flanders who designed many successful posters, most notably for his main client, the Antwerp-based Red Star Line ship company. Whether he was advertising ships, cars, elixirs or resorts, his style primarily revolved around the people of his country, and his posters are populated by Belgian fishermen, farmers and peasants within typically flat landscapes.
