Buff earthenware pitcher, 5 1 / 4 inches in height, with lustre-painted handle and edges, transfer portrait of Ames and transfer patriotic emblem on other side; minor wear at edges, no maker’s marks noted, sticker reading “41” on bottom. Np, circa 1790s? [1,000/1,500] Fisher Ames (1758-1808) served as a United States Representative for Massachusetts in the first four congresses, from 1789 to 1797. He later delivered a well-known funeral oration for George Washington. The patriotic emblem has 15 stars, suggesting a date between 1792 and 1796. Provenance: sold at a James D.
