[Virginia], 1768 [5,000/7,500] Washington operated a lottery to help fund the building of the Mountain Road in Virginia. The lottery likely did not take place, and while the road was eventually built, it was funded by the Virginia legislature, not the lottery. 174 c   WILSON, WOODROW.
