287 287 c   (KING, MARTIN LUTHER.) Press photograph of King at the White House. Wire photo, 8 x 10 inches, with typed caption in image and inked Associated Press and Daily News stamps and manuscript caption on verso; image slightly retouched, otherwise minimal wear. Washington, 19 September 1963 [300/400] Dr. King is shown at a cluster of microphones outside the White House, flanked by Ralph Abernathy, Fred Shuttlesworth and other civil rights leaders, after meeting with President Kennedy—just two months before Kennedy was assassinated. The photograph is titled “Negro Leaders at White House.” 288 c   (KING, MARTIN LUTHER.) Photograph of a dinner in honor of Dr. King’s mother Alberta Williams King. Photograph, 11 x 22 3 / 4 inches, captioned in the negative “The Christian Women’s Retreat Testimonial Dinner in Honor of Alberta Williams King, the Waldorf Astoria”; minimal wear. New York: Drucker-Hilbert Company, 14 November 1963 [800/1,200] We have not traced any news accounts of this event or located any guest lists. Certainly many notables would have been in attendance from among Dr. King’s friends and family. Up on the dais are several family members. We don’t see Dr. King, but the man third from the left appears to be his brother Alfred Daniel Williams King. The guest of honor is 12th from the left, and her husband Martin Luther King Sr. is next in line. 15th and 16th appear to be Dr. King’s sister Christine King Farris and her husband Isaac Newton Farris. We suspect that’s retired ballplayer Jackie Robinson seated at the far left of the left front table. 288
