Denslow. 4to, original pale green cloth stamped in green and red, spine tanned with foot rubbed and crown chipped, few light stains to boards, minimal fraying to corners; hinges apparently tightened and still tender but holding, ownership inscription in pencil on front free endpaper, darkening to the upper blank margins of prelims otherwise contents generally clean and bright. Chicago & New York: Geo. M. Hill Co., 1900 [5,000/7,500] first edition , mixed issue , with the following points : red serified spine imprint (Hanff & Greene binding variant C); p. 2 without the publisher’s ads enclosed in a box; the earliest state of the plate facing p. 34 with two dark-blue blots in the face of the moon, the plate facing p. 92 later state without red shading to the horizon.
