The letter, declining to write to General [David Prescott] Barrows to commend him because he was only doing what he thought was right. 1 page, 4to, “Office of the Commanding General” stationery; horizontal folds, faint scattered staining. With the original postmarked envelope, additionally signed with Patton’s censor signature. “APO 403” [Namur, Belgium], 2 January 1945 [800/1,200] “. . . I believe it would be inexpedient for me to write to General Barrows, for while I appreciate what he did, I think he would be embarrassed if I should write him for doing what he felt was right.” David Prescott Barrows (1873-1954) was an anthropologist and explorer who, during his retirement, served as a wartime consultant to the Secretary of War.
