Youngblood, S. R.; Senior and Junior. Large archive of materials relating to Youngblood Senior's life and career in education, plus materials relating to his son. Documents, photographs, ledgers, and manuscript speeches in various formats. Vp, vd S. Rufus Youngblood was born a slave in 1862, attended Claflin College and went on to be an educator. The archive includes a ledger kept by Youngblood as administrator for the Dickson estate in South Carolina. In that ledger he has written an autobiographical sketch of his interesting life. He taught at Claflin College and in 1910 moved to Oklahoma where he taught at Langston University. Other documents in the archive include Youngblood's early teaching certificates, his licenses, and letters of recommendation from civic and college officials. Also included are numerous family photos, manuscript speeches (about 50 pages), etc. The Youngblood family is further represented by materials relating to Youngblood Junior, who practiced as a dentist. Included are a ledger book with extensive patient records, a birth certificate, etc. Other Youngblood family materials are also included. A fascinating archive; should be examined.
