- Notes: "The purpose of the author is obviously narrative; historical data is not given; it is certainly not a morality play; it is merely to tell an engrossing tale of murder & ambition. The central idea is ambition; it is this which motivates the play. The impression is one of horror... It is perhaps instinctive on the part of the author that he weave into the plot a psychological study. It is part of his genius that he create a well-sustained plot without much purposeful thought."
