A BEAUTIFUL COPY
The Fifteenth Amendment. Elaborate hand-colored lithographed print, 21 3/4x28 inches sheet size, with a central image of black Zouaves in parade, surrounded by an unbroken border of vignettes (portraits of Lincoln, John Brown, Douglass, Delany and others, plus scenes of military and domestic life); few small archival repairs. Very nice copy. New York: Thomas Kelly, 1870
- Notes: A scarce version of several celebratory lithographs with the same title, issued virtually simultaneously. Some of the domestic vignettes show what life would be like once freedom had been granted to former slaves. Library of Congress, American Political Print, 1776-1886, #1870-4; LCP Negro History 1553-1903, #225.
