A LA PLACE CLICHY. 1891.

G. De Malherbe & H. A. Cellot.
48x33 inches.

  • Notes: A La Place Clichy was a big department store that did a lot of advertising, always choosing excellent designers (including Cheret, Meunier, Pal and Thiriet) for their posters. Grasset provides the store with what is basically an enlarged illustration, very similar to a catalogue cover he designed for La Maison Orientale, a competing rug merchant. The bearded colonial-style man in the midst of a colorful rug bazaar makes a very complex, colorful impression. The image was a great success and was printed in various formats. Arwas p. 37, Maitres pl. 18.
  • Condition: Condition A-: vertical and horizontal folds.
