  • Provenance:
Hermann Wünsche Estate; to the Present Owner in 1999

    Notes:
These works are part of a series created for a group exhibition. First presented in New York at Castelli Graphics, The Nimslo exhibition was a group show featuring various artists and was held in 1983. Another exhibition of "3-D Photographs" was also held by the German art dealer Hermann Wünsche (1941-1993) in his gallery in Bonn that same year.

The Nimslo 3-D camera is a four-lens camera that captures four slightly different views simultaneously to create 3D images from 35mm film. The camera was designed for use with lenticular printing, a process that produces prints with the illusion of depth or even apparent movement as the image can be viewed from different angles. During processing, the images are vertically sliced, interlaced, and laminated behind a lenticular screen. This technique creates the illusion of a three-dimensional image on flat paper without the need for special glasses. Introduced in the US market around 1982, the Nimslo was intended to be the first consumer-level three-dimensional lenticular camera, but it didn't take off commercially. Today, these cameras are mostly used by people who primarily want to turn their pictures into 3D GIFs.
