  • Notes: The extra was issued at noon, just hours after Lincoln's death. The headline reads "Terrible National Calamity. Assassination of President Lincoln. He is Shot Through the Head and Mortally Wounded. Sec'y Seward and his Son also Assassinated. The President Ded at 7:22 This Morning. J. Wilkes Booth the Assassin." A meeting was announced at the Rutland Town Hall for 2 p.m. "to take such action as may then be deemed advisable upon the national calamity."
