Large 4to, 332x274 mm, modern red straight-grain morocco handsomely gilt; plates generally clean though offsetting onto adjacent leaves throughout, occasional browning of text leaves, dampstain along top edge of last index leaf, owner's inscription on front endleaf in each volume.   • Notes: first edition, complete with the founders'' portraits; ordinary-paper issue. Second state of plate 73 ("Public Library"), signed "Dl. Havell" instead of "Havell." Abbey Scenery 80.
