ADJA YUNKERS Composition.

ADJA YUNKERS
Composition.

Color woodcut on Japan paper, 1955. 530x345 mm; 21x13 3/4 inches, full margins. Signed, titled, dated and numbered 59/200 in pencil, lower margin. A very good impression with strong colors.

Few artists were as successful as Adja Yunkers (1900-1983) in the medium of color woodcuts. Dominating his work prior to 1960, he infused his woodcuts with painterly concepts, which allowed for complex color prints, as seen in the present lot. These eventually gave way to his experiments in lithography that he would later learn at the Tamarind Lithography Workshop, Los Angeles.
