The portrait, "To Lila Deyo from / her daddy's old friend with / cordial regards from her cousin," half-length portrait by Walter Tittle, showing him in uniform. Inscribed in the blank lower margin. 10x8 inches; faint scattered dampstaining affecting portrait and inscription, closed tears at lower edge affecting inscription (without loss). The letter, thanking for a wedding present and, in an Autograph Postscript: "Green Boller [Bowler?]. I spelled it wrong, my secretary tells me. I am only here for a day. Must return to Washington tonight. Let's have a drink out of the Green Bowl when I get back." 1 page, 4to, "Office of the Chief of Naval Operations" stationery; folds. Np, nd; Boston, 15 August 1947
