AH FONG (active 1930s)
A pair of photographs, including a landscape and an occupational scene with two workers. Silver prints, the images measuring 5½x7¾ and 7½x10 inches (14x19.7 and 19.1x25.4 cm.), the first image's sheet slightly larger and mounted 7 7/8x10 3/8 inches (20x26.4cm.); both enclosed in Fong's original thin stylized black frames with the original backings. Circa 1930s

Accompanied with the original paper envelopes, each with Ah Fong's Studio, Canton stamp as well as Chinese newspaper clippings.

Provenance: The Collection of John Stage, internationally recognized freelance photographer

  • Condition: This pair of vintage Ah Fong photographs are in very good to excellent condition. Both prints are enclosed in the original stylized frames conceived and made by the photographer, which feature thin black bamboo-inspired edges and wooden backings with finely-conceived slotted closures.

The first image, a silhouetted study of vegetation and architecture, is adhered to its original mount. The print is very slightly silvered, but this is typical, and not at all distracting. The mount is very faintly darkened at the edges, but again, this is minor. The frame backing is missing one small closure.

The other print is also in very good condition with an extremely faint patina of silvering. Upon close inspection it is possible to find a few small handling marks, but these are not immediately apparent and are not distracting.

The frames-- beautiful period objects--are excellent. The lot is accompanied by the original paper enclosures with Ah Fong's Canton studio stamp.
