ALBERT GUILLAUME (1873-1942)

Guillaume was a prolific illustrator who did work for magazines, books and
almanacs. He was also a painter and a poster designer. Working for the big
Parisian printer Camis, he did a lot of advertising for music hall stars (Yvette
Guilbert, Louis Bannisson and Gigolette, to name a few) but also did plenty of
commercial advertising, using various characters like dandies, officers and
even caricaturing celebrities of the time. To promote this meat extract
bullion, from the Chicago meat yards (that were mythical in Europe)

- Notes: Guillaume uses a bold, powerful drawing of a weight-lifter (a very popular act in these days in Parisian circuses) drinking a cup of the product. The poster exists in various formats and versions proving that it was a successful and popular ad. Weill p. 47 no. 69, Maitres pl. 163.
- Condition: Condition B+: vertical and horizontal folds; minor tears and staining in margins.
