ALBRECHT DÜRER
St. Jerome by the Pollard Willow.

Drypoint, 1512. 208x183 mm; 8 1/4x7 1/4 inches. Second state (of 3), with the artist's monogram left center but before the retouching of the plate and the hole near the left rock. A good Meder c-d impression in this state. Partial Large City Gate watermark (Meder 263, which he dates to the mid-1500s). Ex-collection Henry F. Sewall (Lugt 1309, verso). Trimmed on or just inside the plate mark.

An extremely scarce print, one of only three known drypoints by Dürer. We have found only 9 other impressions of this subject at auction in the past 30 years. Bartsch 59; Meder 58.
