ALLAN ROHAN CRITE
Ladies and Gentlemen.

Pen and ink triptych on 3 sheets of cream wove paper, 1934. Each 401x305 mm; 161/8x12 inches. Two signed and dated in ink, upper left, one signed and dated in ink, lower right, and each titled in ink, lower center.

An African-American painter raised in Boston, Crite's work reflects the daily life of African-Americans in the Roxbury and South End districts during the 1930s and 1940s. According to Crite, "I've only done one piece of work in my whole life and I am still at it. I wanted to paint people of color as normal humans. I tell the story of man through the black figure."
