Silver print, the image measuring 203x305 mm; 8x12 inches, the sheet 279x352 mm; 11x13 7/8 inches, with Ginsberg's signature, unique title and lengthy inscription, and negative date in ink on recto, and Kaplan's signature and dates in pencil on verso.

The inscription reads as follows: "William S. Burroughs looking at me suspiciously, slightly zonked, 'Who are you an Agent for?' He 'traced back along word-lines,' Cut-up technique of anti-brainwash prophylaxis language analysis, inquiring sources encoded threw my mental conditioning, perhaps Liberal Columbia Professor Lionel Trilling, perhaps 'a trust of giant insects from another Galaxy' conspiring to make Nova Conditions on our Planet, exterminate our HomoSap inhabitants so another life-form move in on the home turf, virus invasion via abstract language stupefaction, such like Poetries on his mind. Villa Muneria muneria dooryard-garden wall, Tanger Maroc, May 1961."

  • Condition: Allen Ginsberg's portrait "William S. Burroughs, Slightly Zonked" (1961; printed 1991 by Sid Kaplan) is lustrous and neat and overall in excellent condition.

    Under very close inspection in strong raking light, it is possible to see two minor pinpoint impressions in the darkest shadows to the right of Burroughs. These are likely to go unnoticed under typical viewing conditions and only noted for the purpose of a detailed condition report.

    The margins and verso are also bright, neat, and clean. With Ginsberg's signature, unique title, lengthy inscription, and negative date in ink on recto, as well as Kaplan's signature and dates in pencil on verso.
