  • Notes: Some of the Dakota words are given in both the Santee and Yankton dialects. The intended audience was the Dakota reader attempting to learn English. The compiler notes in his introduction that "there are one hundred Dakota people who should learn to speak English to one English speaking person who should learn to speak Dakota." Pilling, Siouxan, page 77.
