In part: "I find it, to say the least, very doubtful whether the government will permit the sun-dance at Pine Ridge, certainly not the full program with the tortures." "I think the Umatilla would be a very interesting tribe to see on the 4th of July as they seem to have much native stuff (costumes, war bonnets etc) left. . . . In every case try to get a photograph of the man wearing the stuff you buy!" Louisville, KY, 1910-11 * Frank Bird Lindeman, Crow ethnographer.
