  • Notes: Receipt issued to Quartermaster General Amasa Davis for "two hundred bushels Indian corn, seventy five yds of blue br''d cloth, fifty pounds muskett powder & two hundred pounds shott, which articles are in full for the payment due us from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts up to October 1798 as pr agreement for land relinquished by us to the said Commonwealth in 1796." Signed by mark by Esquene Onhorn, Atean, Joseph Peace, Nictumbawit, John Loring, and Liber Mofit. 9 x 7 1/4 inches. "Bangor, mouth of Conaiskey," ME, 9 October 1798.
    Receipt issued to John Blake as "agent for the Penobscot tribe of Indians," "two hundred bushels Indian corn, seventy five yards blew broadcloth, 50 lbs Dutch powder, and 200 lbs gross of shott," signed by Nicola Neptune, and also by mark by Governor Lobar, John Nickoler, Pole Jesop, Michael Love, Sol Beson, Joe Lion, and Alloler. 6 1/2 x 7 3/4 inches. Bangor, ME, 20 November 1810. Provenance: from the collection of William Wheeler III.
