Visible in the background is a truck prominently displaying a poster on its side, which is true to life asAmerican Railway Express often mounted its posters on each side of company trucks. By some accounts, the posters were changed as often as every month. American Railway Express came into being during WWI when the U.S. Government nationalized the country's shipping and freight industries. Although run by the government, the majority of the company was owned by American Express. The close relationship between the two companies can be seen in the similarities in their advertising campaigns, which were all in the same style and, in some instances, by the same artist.
