(AMERICAN REVOLUTION--1782.) Arnold, Charles Henry. The New and Impartial Universal History of North and South America.

(AMERICAN REVOLUTION--1782.) Arnold, Charles Henry. The New and Impartial Universal History of North and South America. Frontispiece plate. xi, [1], [25]-276 pages, lacking ad pages 13-24 usually found in rear. 12mo, contemporary 1/4 calf with vellum corners, worn, needs binding; moderate wear, foxing, and finger-soiling, closed tear to title page; later owner's tag on front pastedown. London, [1781 or 1782]

  • Notes: The author was a Philadelphia Loyalist relocated to London, and not entirely impartial. The last and most interesting half covers the events surrounding the Revolution, ending in mid-1781 with Benedict Arnold making "some progress in Virginia." He also notes that "Washington, though he has for some time threatened an attack upon York-Island, seems contented to remain within his lines." The British surrender at Yorktown would soon change the narrative. Adams, American Controversy 82-9a; Howes A326; Sabin 2064. Only one other known at auction since 1977.
