(AMERICAN REVOLUTION--HISTORY.) [Christoph Heinrich Korn.] Geschichte der Kriege. Parts 1-8 (of 30) bound in one volume. 9 maps and plans (4 of them hand-colored), one plate. Thick 4to, contemporary boards, minor wear, remnants of early paper spine labels; ink underlining, otherwise minimal wear; edges tinted red; bookplate of later collector Haslett McKim on front pastedown. Nuremberg, Germany, 1776-1777

  • Notes: Authorship is generally assigned either to German military officer Christoph Heinrich Korn, or to publisher Gabriel Nicolaus Kaspe as the compiler. The work was issued in 30 parts. These first 8 parts relate entirely to America, with the first two sections starting in the 17th century and covering the French and Indian War, and parts 3 through 8 covering the American Revolution through mid-1777; the later 22 parts (published through 1784, not present) also discuss military actions in Europe and the Caribbean.

The maps were adapted from French and European sources, including Faden's battle plans. They include Boston, Crown Point, Philadelphia, Quebec, North America, New England, Montreal, the northern part of Manhattan, and Howe's campaign in New York and New Jersey. An engraved view of Quebec is also included.

"The first important European history of the Revolutionary War, which is still little-known in America"--Vail's "Report of the Librarian," in the Proceedings of the American Antiquarian Society for 1933, which also includes a detailed collation (pages 281-285). Howes G147; Nebenzahl 102, 177; Sabin 27213.
