(AMERICAN REVOLUTION--PRINTS.) Israel Putnam, Esqr., Major General of the Connecticut Forces.

(AMERICAN REVOLUTION--PRINTS.) Israel Putnam, Esqr., Major General of the Connecticut Forces. Mezzotint, 17.5 x 13 inches, by an anonymous engraver after "J. Wilkinson." Slight browning in lower right margin, faint marginal crease, and a very small repaired puncture in the image, but overall quite strong. London: C. Shepherd, 9 September 1775

  • Notes: Unlike the Washington prints sold by Shepherd, this striking print of Putnam leaning on a cannon bears a strong resemblance to other known portraits of the famous general, possibly because a reliable image of Putnam was already in circulation (see Tarbox, Life of Putnam, 217-219). Cresswell 175.
