IN THE WAKE OF THE BATTLE OF RHODE ISLAND (AMERICAN REVOLUTION.) Sullivan, John; General. Pay Abstract of the Regiment of Foot . . . Commanded by Henry Jackson. Manuscript Document Signed. One sheet, 16.5 x 13 inches; slight foxing and several folds. Providence, RI, 9 September and 16 October 1778
- Notes: signed by general john sullivan, who led several Continental regiments in an effort to besiege British occupying forces in Newport, RI. When French reinforcements failed to arrive, Sullivan''s troops were repulsed in the 29 August 1778 Battle of Rhode Island. Less than two weeks later, while Sullivan''s men regrouped in nearby Providence, this pay abstract was prepared for one of his regiments, the 16th Massachusetts led by Col. Henry Jackson. This document sets forth the wages due to each of the regiment''s companies for June, July, and August, with Sullivan''s signed 16 October orders to the paymaster on verso.
