Jonathan Arnold. Colonial banknote Signed, "Jona. Arnold," as Member of the Congress of the Confederation, guaranteeing the engraved $5 note issued on July 2, 1780, by the colony of Rhode Island. Countersigned on verso by Thomas Rumreill, in faded red ink, and Adam Comstock. 2¾x3½ inches. Np, 1782-3 • Thomas Bee. ADS, "Tho's Bee Def[endan]t's Att[orne]y," a plea by James and Sarah Skirving denying the claim of Othniel Beale that Mrs. Skirving made a promise to Beale. Additionally signed by Bee in the third person within the text and on verso, and countersigned by plaintiff's attorney. 1 page, 7½x12 inches. Np, 30 April 1762 [from docketing] • Thomas Chittenden. Partly-printed DS, "Tho's Chittenden," as Governor, appointing Stephen Greenleaf Adjutant in the militia. Countersigned by Secretary Joseph Fay. 8¼x12¾ inches. Np, 18 July 1788 • Oliver Ellsworth.
