ANDREA ANDREANI (after Raffaellino da Reggio)
The Adoration of the Magi.

Chiaroscuro woodcut printed in dark greenish gray and black on cream laid paper. 431x330 mm; 17x13 inches.

Raffaellino (1550-1570) was a gifted Mannerist painter from Reggio Emilia (hence his name) and a disciple of the brother artists Taddeo Zuccaro (1529-1566) and Federico Zuccaro (circa 1543-1609). He worked mainly in Rome during the 1570's and died there prematurely at age 28.

There is a drawing by Raffaellino of a design for a chapel with an altar piece of The Adoration of the Magi now in the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh. Bartsch 5.
