  • Notes:
Andy Warhol's Myths portfolio comprises of ten screenprinted cultural icons of the 20th century, including Superman, Dracula, the Wicked Witch of the West, and Mickey Mouse. This project was the first documented instance where Warhol appropriated comics and cartoons in his printed œuvre

Warhol began to use very fine diamond dust in the second special edition of his 1979 Grapes portfolio ( Grapes D.D.) In his future projects, including Myths, Warhol favored coarser particles of diamond dust which were more distinguishable. There are several theories of how Warhol got introduced to diamond dust. In "Rupert Jasen Smith on Printmaking," which appeared in the second edition of Andy Warhol Prints, Smith theorized that he was the one who first inspired Warhol: "Andy always said, 'The diamond dust fell off Rupert's paintings and stuck to mine.'" Warhol also gave credit to Smith for obtaining the licensing rights for Mickey Mouse; he used the character again in Double Mickey Mouse (1981).
