ANDY WARHOL (after) Bella Abzug (New York's Bella, Rolling Stone Magazine)

ANDY WARHOL (after)
Bella Abzug (New York's Bella, Rolling Stone Magazine).

Offset color lithograph poster, 1977. 680x550 mm; 26 3/4x21 5/8 inches, full margins. Signed by both Warhol and Abzug in felt-tip pen and black ink, right margin.

Warhol's portrait illustration of New York Congresswoman Bella Abzug (1920-1998) graced the October 6, 1977 cover of Rolling Stone magazine.

Abzug was the first Jewish woman elected to the House of Representatives, as well as an early gay rights activist. She ran for the US Senate in 1976, after her congressional term, but was defeated by Daniel Patrick Moynihan and was unsuccessful in a bid to be the Mayor of New York City in 1977.
